The project TEMPUS ALIGN, implemented in Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, intensified cooperation with Bath Spa University (UK). This institution is a member of the consortium of foreign and Ukrainian universities, ALIGN project implementers.
Bath Spa University Bath Spa University, the State University of Bath, traces its history back over 160 years to the original Bath School of Art and then Bath College of Higher Education was originated . It received university status in 2005. Since then it is known as Bath Spa University. An important event in the development of cooperation between Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and Bath Spa University (UK) was meeting between Professor Paul Hyland, the project manager of Bath Spa University and Professor Peter Bech, the vice-rector for International Relations, and conclusion of a bilateral agreement on scientific and educational cooperation. New educational project which led this inter-university collaboration to the next level, was a grant program of mobility ERASMUS + (2016-2017). Under this grant 10 teaching staff of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (representatives from our International Cooperation Department, Faculty of Computer Science and Cybernetics, scientific-methodical center, Institute of Philology, Institute of Journalism and Institute of In-Service Teaching) had two-week internship at Bath Spa University (UK) During the meeting between specialists of the Faculty of Computer Science and Cybernetics and Dr. Inna Pomorina, FHEA Associate of Economics and Network Senior Lecturer in Economics and Globalization MA's dissertations module coordinator at Bath Business School of Bath Spa University the possibilities of mutual participation in the projects and publications were discussed in the following sphere among which are:
Now, the post-graduate student from faculty of Computer Science and Cybernetics Anna Yaylymova conducts her research under this grant at Bath Spa University. The student, sharing impressions about her work at Bath Spa university, said: "I was very lucky to get to Bath Spa University, the faculty of Creative Computing Centre. It is a leading educational center in art, culture and business in the UK. My work concerns the development of digital creativity for interdisciplinary studies. I create software that is based on knowledge and experience of the faculty of computer science and cybernetics in the field of Creative Computing. The research is conducted under the supervision of two scientific mentors simultaneously - Professor Vladimir Zaslavsky (KNU) and Deputy Director of Creative Computing Centre Professor Yang Hoxha. "
After finishing the internship Anna Yaylymova plans to implement new innovative international project experience and knowledge gained at a foreign university in scientific publications and then in her dissertation.
In order to generate new areas of research and to discuss further prospects for cooperation in education, following the prior agreement of the parties the delegation from Bath Spa University, headed by Vice-Chancellor of Bath Spa University, Professor Christina Slade is going to arrive to KNU.

From the 11th to the 17th of June 2016 a group of European experts attended with working visit Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv to evaluate and analyse the quality assurance of university academic programs. Long visit of the Head of European and Postgraduate Taught Development from Bath Spa University (UK) Professor Paul Hyland, Professor David Quin from Dublin Institute of Design (Ireland) and Stephanie Lohbaum from Accreditation Agency ASIIN (Germany) took place in the framework of international educational TEMPUS project ALIGN: «Achieving and checking the alignment between academic programmes and qualification frameworks».
As provided by the objectives of the TEMPUS project ALIGN, two pilot academic programs were selected in our university: "Social Informatics" (from 09.01.2016 - "Business Informatics") at the Faculty of Cybernetics and "Method of empirical sociological research" at the Faculty of Sociology. These two programs have been reviewed and revised by European standards.
According to the visit program, the first and second working days foreign and Ukrainian experts and partners of the project (Sumy State University, Khmelnytsky National University, Accreditation Commission of Ukraine, Ukrainian Association of Students government, the Federation of Employers of Ukraine) came to the campus of Cybernetics and Sociology Faculties, where they met with university working group of ALIGN project, administration and teaching staff of Cybernetics and Sociology Faculties, Head of Scientific Educational and Methodological Center, students, graduate students and employers. During working meetings the main goals and results of pilot academic programs were discussed and evaluated, the competencies were considered that students receive during their training and the methods of their verification, program structure and quality assurance for 20 specific criteria were also discussed. Specifics of quality assurance system for educational programs at the University level and Faculty and alignment of academic programs according to the National Qualifications Framework were analyzed.
During working sessions the staff, administration of the Faculties and representatives of Scientific Educational and Methodological Center gained important experience and received practical advices on development of the university quality assurance system and academic autonomy of the University as a whole; on establishment of competency approach, consistency of learning outcomes and acquired competences between all interested applicants and users of the educational process; on establishment modern European practices into educational process, on theoretical developments and practical recommendations, new teaching methods to update modern university. Implementation of these recommendations will contribute to a faster integration of the University to the European and world educational space, that allows Ukrainian universities to be competitive and provides the development of a powerful Ukrainian economy.
Last day the guests visited main building of the university, where together with experts, representatives of the project team met with the Vice-Rector for International Relations on Research and Academic Affairs (International Cooperation) Professor Petro Bech. During this meeting, the foreign partners expressed their impression on the specifics of reform of higher education in Ukraine, educational process in our University and mentioned about:
- High professional level and scientific potential of teachers involved in educational process at the Faculties of Cybernetics and Sociology, in particular in the development and revision of EU standards for two pilot academic programs;
- Qualified training for students and post-graduate students at the university, including active involvement of young people in scientific research, international projects and mobility programs, development of their creative abilities, high culture and intellectual potential;
- Active cooperation with the private and public sector and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in order to analyze and review educational academic programs, determining the actual competences of the graduates in the international labor market;
- The requirement of more active project promotion to disseminate the results of its implementation among Faculties and Institutes of the University and holding an additional workshops and training for researchers and teaching staff of the University;
- Great importance of informational and analytical System "Triton" developed at the University to ensure quality and support academic programs, to monitor and support the educational process at the University;
According to experts, these criteria and indicators, that were demonstrated by our University are important for evaluating academic programs and their successful accreditation in international quality assurance agency.
The results of the expert commission will prepare as a report with conclusions and recommendations on alignment of programs and procedures for quality assurance at the University with respect to European standards.
Rector Petro Bech thanked for the cooperation with foreign partners in the project ALIGN, professional work of experts and submitted to Professor Paul Hyland signed by the rectors of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and Bath Spa University agreement on cooperation in educational and scientific spheres. This agreement will promote an active cooperation between two universities.
One of the examples of practical interest in mutual cooperation and logical continuation of ALIGN project was a grant prepared and acquired by the program Erasmus +, which provides scholarships for mobility of teaching and administrative staff of two Ukrainian universities. In early July 2016 the first 5 members of our University and 5 - from SSU will visit Bath Spa University for an internship to obtain experience of alignment of academic programs and double degree programs, implementation of joint scientific and innovative research and form the actual subject of new educational and research grants by EU programs.
During stay in Kyiv, European experts visited the National Erasmus + office where they told on the status of the project, importance of internationalization of education and quality assurance of education in Ukraine in transition period.

From 14 to 18 June 2015 representatives of the TEMPUS project «ALIGN_QF»(543901-TEMPUS-1-2013-1-AM-TEMPUS-JPGR) http://align.brusov.am/ , http://www.tempus.univ.kiev.ua/ working group Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv took part in a working meeting of representatives of Ukrainian and foreign universities which are in the project consortium. The meeting took place at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan.
It was also attended by teachers Bath Spa University (UK), the Institute of Art, Design and Technology (Ireland), Catholic high school of St. Leuven (Belgium); Yerevan State University of Languages and Social Sciences named after V. Bryusov (project coordinator), Yerevan State Academy of Arts and Yerevan State Medical University (Armenia); Moscow State Humanitarian University and the Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after MV Lomonosov (Russia); SSU and Khmelnytsky National University; the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Armenia and Russia, Foreign accreditation agencies, national student organizations.
Our university was presented at this event by coordinator of KNU, head Department for International Scientific and Technical Cooperation and Innovation technology, Professor V. Zaslavskiy and Director scientific-metodological center of the educational process A.Hozhyk. They made a presentation, which presented the main results of the project for the first year.
In March 6, 2015 in Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv held a Ukrainian-German Forum "Education, science and innovation in universities: current challenges". The forum organizators were the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany.
December 18, 2014 in Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv was held a meeting of heads of Tempus projects chaired by Petro Bekh, Vice-Rector (International Relations). The meeting was attended by Head of International Cooperation and European Integration of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Anna Novosad.
Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is working on the implementation of 8 projects Tempus. Our university is one of the leading universities of Ukraine by the number of received projects within the 5th and 6th competition Tempus IV.

ALIGN (ACHIEVING AND CHECKING THE ALIGNMENT BETWEEN ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES AND QUALIFICATION FRAMEWORKS): is a three-year multi-country project, under the Governance Reform, EACEA N° 35/2012, 6th call National Priorities for Joint Projects action. The wider objective of the project is to enhance the intelligibility, consistency and transferability of qualifications through establishment of mechanisms for HEIs to achieve alignment of academic programmes with NQFs and for QA agencies to check such alignment. The universities involved are from Eastern Neighboring Area– Armenia, Russia and Ukraine. It will allow deeper understanding of the needs of developing systems and customization to specific institutions.
